Iowans Not Eating Produce
CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28)
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Iowans are not eating as much produce as they should.
The "2013 State Indicators Report on Fruits and Vegetables" shows a surprising number (39.8%) of adults say they miss their recommended serving of fruit every day. At the same time, about a quarter (26.9%) say they don't eat any vegetables.
The results are just as bad for kids.
More than a third of adolescents say they skip eating both fruit (36.1%) and vegetables (35.1%) on a daily basis.
Iowans eat an average of one fruit and a vegetable and a half per day. That makes the Hawkeye state one of only five where folks usually eat less than two servings of each.
