IC Makes Forbes List for Business
IOWA CITY (CBS 2/FOX 28) - Business is good in Iowa City. According to 'Forbes' Magazine, the home of the Hawkeyes ranks 13th among the best small places for business or career.
Misty Blank owns a business in the ped mall. She says her business has grown a lot.
She credits that growth to one thing - location.
In the last year and a half, more than two dozen businesses, from clothing to restaurants, have opened in Downtown Iowa City alone.
That's how Iowa City got the 13th place ranking.
George Etre is the Vice President of the Iowa City Downtown District. He tells us, "It seems like every month, we have new places opening up."
And that's a good thing.
The Iowa City Downtown District have led a year-long campaign to pump new life into the area using street art, sidewalk sales, and promoting downtown business.
"We run commercials, we do social media, we do Facebook, we do Twitter, we do newspaper, we do radio. We try to promote it on every avenue possible," says Etre.
The group hopes these efforts will not only make businesses want to come to Iowa City, but to stay.
Blank says, "I"m ready to rock and roll down here and grow."
