Hiawatha Rezoning Proposal

HIAWATHA, IOWA (CBS2/FOX28) -- Owners of the Neon Dragon Tattoo and Body Art Shop in Hiawatha are breathing a sigh of relief, after the city council voted to allow tattoo parlors in every section of a proposed rezoning plan for Center Point Road.

In a heated council meeting, dozens of supporters came to the defense of the tattoo parlor.

The council had labeled the tattoo shop as not family-friendly enough to be placed in the center of a redesigned for a new proposed downtown area.

But the council ended up changing its mind, much to the delight of the shop owners.

"We love it here, we love the area and we hope that your vision really glorifies the city. And that's what we want to do, you know, one little piece of skin at a time. I'm here to do it," said Neon Dragon owner Jason Evans.

The council will vote on a the proposed rezone during its next meeting on September 4, after another public hearing.
