Group Meets Goal for Iowa Sailor's "Smart Home"
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) --
Organizers of a concert to raise money for a disabled Cedar Falls sailor's "smart home" say they have enough funding to build the structure.
The Aug. 3 concert by actor Gary Sinise's Lt. Dan Band raised about $95,000 for the planned iPad-controlled house for Taylor Morris. He was a Navy explosives ordnance disposal expert who lost parts of all four limbs in a 2011 explosion in Afghanistan.
He's rehabilitating at Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.
John Hodge, director of operations for a foundation that helped organize the concert, says that money plus earlier donations should add up to enough funding to build the house.
Organizers say the next step is finding a location for the house.
