Created in the Corridor: Clickstop

URBANA, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) - How does a new business grow its annual revenue from $250,000 to $15,000,000 in just eight years? Tim Guenther will tell you 'work hard and have fun'."  Those two basic principals are at the core of Tim's e-commerce company Created in the Corridor.

You dont even realize what its going to take. You just start stumbling your way through a lot of times, especially if its the first time, recall's Guenther who, with no business plan and wracking up credit card debt, started what would become Clickstop in 2005 as a matter of survival. I Worked a lot of hours, did whatever I could do to get by and feed the family.

Clickstop is an internet retailer that sells thousands of products under several different brands. And they do it all at Clickstop's 98,000 square foot facility in Urbana. Most of its
warehouse space is devoted to U.S. Cargo Control which offers myriad products in the moving supplies industry. Shipping all over the country, U.S. Cargo makes up 80% of Clickstop's revenue.  But there's also Eco Foil, a reflective insulation product. Space Savers for storage and organization and Belly Bling, a body jewelry company.

What propelled Clickstop? Guenther says, We worked really hard to be good at search engine optimization and pay-per-click advertising. And that has lead to 7,000 new customers every month.
To meet that demand, Clickstop has grown from 50 employees to 80 since September; Twenty hired on in just the past 90 days. Explains Guenther, "What we have been doing this year is a portion of the manufacturing process so weve brought several jobs back from China and weve created a manufacturing department.

Clickstop's working environment is something to be envied: an on-site bistro, billiards, a fitness room and flexible office hours supported by trust. The company's Vice President of Culture and Communication, Jim Mayhew, offers this example of employee satisfaction; One person in one of our videos said, I dont have to feel guilty about leaving my family when I come to work and I dont have to feel guilty about leaving work to be with my family. Mayhew says the company made it a point to get significatn employee feedback to help create the company's core values. Its truly where people like each other so were having fun along the way.

And Clickstop's growth continues as the company prepares to launch a fastener business called Fasteners Plus in October. You can learn more about Clickstop in the News Links section of this website.
