Two Teens Attempt Waterloo Escape

WATERLOO (CBS 2/FOX 28) - The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office says two teens at the Northeast Iowa Juvenile Detention Center tried to escape Monday night, injuring several staff members.

The two teens, one 14 and the other 16, reportedly "jumped" staffin at the Detention Center, striking them with chairs and fists and biting them. They also managed to take a set of keys away from a staff member and had managed to get a door open before leaving the facility.

Authorities say other residents in the facility came to the aid of the staff and helped prevent the escape. Several staff members were injured, but none required hospitalization.

The pair, which face a variety of new charges, did about $1,000 damage to the center.
