Iowa City Plans to Add Alternative Solid Waste Facility

IOWA CITY (CBS 2/FOX 28) --
Iowa City officials say they plan to look for an alternative solid waste facility to operate in conjunction with the city landfill.
Officials say they plan to release a Request for Proposal (RFP) during the week of July 15th.   This because the city landfill historically receives about 100,000 tons of solid waste per year.   The new project would develop a solid waste receiving facility at the landfill and include a multi-year operations contract for transfer and on-site processing of the waste.
A pre-proposal conference will be held at 10am on Thursday, July 2th at the landfill.   Afterward, folks will be able to tour and view the landfill and recycling center.
Anyone who wants to submit a proposal can find instructions on the city's website, at www.icgov.org/default/apps/equipment/commodities.asp.
Proposals are due by 4pm on Thursday, Septempber 12th.
