Nationwide Protests to Have July 4th Presence in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS 2 / FOX 28) - The Cedar Rapids organizer of the National Restore the Fourth Movement plans to stage a march through the city's downtown and hold a rally at Greene Square Park on Thursday, July 4.

Restore the Fourth is a grassroots, non-violent movement that seeks to organize and assemble nationwide protests on Independence Day to demand that the federal government adhere to and respect the Fourth Amendment which provides constitutional protection against unreasonable searches and seizures.

The protests, planned for more than 100 cities, are in response to revelations of domestic spying by the National Security Agency.

Jonathan Trueblood, a graduate student in the University of Iowa College of Chemistry, says the demonstration in Cedar Rapids will begin at 12:00 pm with a march through downtown and will conclude with a 4:00 pm rally in Greene Square Park.
