POLL: Many Iowans Want New Governor

DES MOINES, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- A new poll finds a majority of Iowans are happy with the work done by Governor Branstad, but many also feel it's time for him to go.
In a poll conducted by Quinnipiac University, Iowans surveyed gave the Governor a 51% job approval rating.  But when asked whether Branstad has been in office too long, 54% said yes, 46% said he does not deserve another term.
Despite those numbers, the poll also found a key advantage is Gov. Branstad's possible bid for a sixth term in office.  More than three-fourths of Iowans polled knew little about any potential Democratic candidates for Governor.
"Iowans have a nuanced opinion about their off-again and on-again governor, who has spent 19 years in office."  Said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.  "The question, should the Governor seek another term, is whether their support for Branstad will in the end supersede voters' view that it's time for him to go."
The poll also find favorable ratings for both Iowa Senators, Republican Chuck Grassley and retiring Democrat Tom Harkin.  It also found a majority of Iowans are happy with the work being done by lawmakers at the statehouse.
