Sen. Hatch Responds to Iowa Speeding Controversy

DES MOINES (CBS 2/FOX 28) --
Sen. Jack Hatch, a democrat in Des Moines, released the following statement Wednesday regarding the Governor's vehicle and the Iowa State Patrol's recent failed attempt to stop the vehicle for speeding:
"The Governor has to take responsibility.  His vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed. No one is above the law.  We don't need an expensive investigation to tell us what we already know.  This is just not the way we do things in Iowa.   The right way to handle this is to admit when you're wrong, accept responsibility, get the ticket paid and move on.  That's the Iowa way.
The Division of Criminal Investigation should address the personnel issue with the official involved.  If that individual was suspended for trying to keep the public safe by asking the Governor to slow down, there should be an immediate reinstatement. Those responsible for disciplining an officer for doing his job should be held accountable. No additional investigation is required."
