Woman Trapped in Trench Collapse

UPDATED

WATERLOO (CBS 2/FOX 28) - A search and rescue mission near Waterloo became a "recovery" effort late Friday Afternoon.

A Waterloo Police/Fire spokesperson tells CBS 2/FOX 28, the initial call for help came around 2:45 Friday afternoon when a trench collapsed on San Marnan Road, trapping a woman.

About 4:00 p.m. the spokesperson says the "rescue" efforts were turned into "recovery" efforts, indicating the person - as yet unidentified - had died.

We're told the accident happened in an area of road construction where workers were in the process of moving a road to make room for a new housing subdivision.

Just after 5:00 p.m., firefighters pulled the woman's body from the trench. Her name has not yet been released.
