9 Crews Fight Large Fire in Wyoming, IA

WYOMING, IA (CBS2/FOX 28) -- UPDATE - (AP) -- Firefighters from several departments battled a blaze that destroyed one business in the eastern Iowa town of Wyoming and damaged several others. At least nine different fire departments including: Wyoming, Cascade, Anamosa, Maquoketa, Onslow, Center Junction, Oxford Junction, Olin and Lost Nation  were called in to help battle the fire on Sunday. The fire started in the building that housed Ted's Swinging Door restaurant. That building was destroyed and several surrounding businesses were damaged, including the Wyoming Museum. Volunteers carried artifacts out of the museum until firefighters forced them to stop because of the danger. One firefighter was taken the hospital for treatment, but condition and his name wasn't immediately available. Jones County Emergency Management Coordinator Brenda Leonard says no one was in the restaurant building when the fire started.Copyright 2013 Associated Press. All rights reserved. Witnesses tell us that at least one business has been destroyed, and is potentially spreading to other buildings. Jones County officials have issued a boil advisory for residents in Jones County and are asking them to conserve water as the water tower is now empty as firefighters continue to battle the blaze. We will have more information as it becomes available.
