Iowa Unemployment Drops For 3rd Month

DES MOINES (CBS 2/FOX 28) - For the third consecutive month, unemployment fell across the state of Iowa in May.

In may the unemployment rate dipped to 4.6 percent down from 4.7 percent in April. The number bucks the national trend which saw unemployment increase to 7.6 percent in May.

Iowa's non-farm jobs grew by 5,300 in May, the largest monthly jup so far thisyear. The biggest gains came in professional and business services, which bounced back from two months of steady declines.

Construction also bounced back in may, adding 2,200 jobs.
