Iowa Guard Given Big Welcome Home

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) -- Hundreds of people greeted about 50 Iowa Army National Guard soldiers at a homecoming ceremony in Waterloo.
The Tuesday morning ceremony was for soldiers from Detachment 1, Company C of the 2-211th General Support Aviation Battalion. The unit deployed last July. After training in Texas the soldiers served in Afghanistan.
The unit transported and cared for patients who needed treatment in hospitals.
Their deployment included more than 3,200 combat hours and more than 650 medical evacuation and training missions.
On Tuesday, they were escorted by Patriot Guard motorcycles as a bus took them from the Guard's air ambulance unit to the support center where the gathering was held.
