Abou-Assaly New Marion City Councilman

MARION (CBS 2/FOX 28) - The City of Marion has a new City Councilman - Nicolas Abou-Assaly.

Abou-Assaly was named to the Ward 4 seat vacated June 1st with the resignation of Lou Stark.

"I'm proud to be a citizen of Marion and am honored to serve on the City Council," Abou-Assaly said in a statement released by the city Friday. "I look forward to working with the other council members and City staff to help our community reach its fullest potential."

Abou-Assaly is a partner at the Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman law firm in Cedar Rapids and sits on several boards and committees, including the Marion Planning and Zoning Commission, Uptown Marion- Iowa Main Street Community Board of Directors and on the Lowe Park Amphitheater committee.

He will fill the position on the city council until November's next general election.
