3 Injured in Postville Explosion

POSTVILLE, Iowa (AP) -- Three people have been injured in an explosion at a manufacturing plant in northeast Iowa.

The blast and fire at the Norplex-Micarta composite laminates plant was reported around 1:20 a.m. Monday.

Postville Fire Chief Jeff Bohn says one of the three injured has been flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A second injured person was treated at a local hospital and released. The third injured person declined treatment at the scene.

The plant's fire sprinkler system helped hold down the flames from the fire that followed the blast.

The names of the injured haven't been released. The cause of the explosion is being investigated.
