UPDATE: One Man Dies After Cedar River Jet Ski Crash
CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) - Authorities now say one of two men involved in a jet skiing accident Wednesday night near the Ellis boat harbor has died.
Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says 53 year old Michael Scott Paulson died after being taken to St Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Paulson's jet ski collided with another jet ski being piloted by his brother Gary Paulson, also of Cedar Rapids.
Cedar Rapids firefighters pulled two people from the Cedar River late Wednesday evening after a jet ski accident.
Firefighters removed one victim,m Gary Paulsen, from the water shortly after 7:30 Wednesday evening after deploying two rescue boats.
That victim was pulled from the water about 100 yeards downstream from the Ellis Boat Harbor location where the ski show is performed.
Firefighters were helped by civilian boaters, the victim was still conscious and was taken to St. Luke's Hospital.
The second victim, Michael Paulsen, was found by 26 year old Dillon Heinsius who heard a cry of help. Using his own jet ski he was able to get to the second victim and with the help of a boater who had a rope was able to pull the victim to shore.
The cause of the accident is still unclear.
