Judge to Decide of Nancy Sebring Meeting Was Illegally Closed

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- A judge will review a recording of a Des Moines school board meeting about a former superintendent to determine if the meeting was illegally closed.
Polk County Judge Karen Romano will look at tapes, transcripts and other records from the May 2012 meeting about Nancy Sebring.
Romano's review will be private and is part of a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa on behalf of former board member Graham Gillette.
The board invoked an Iowa law that says meetings can be closed to evaluate the professional competency of an individual to prevent injury to that person's reputation. Gillette questions if discussions strayed from that agenda.
Sebring resigned after emails to a lover on her district computer became public.
