Entrepreneur Gets Free Rent in Downtown Lisbon

LISBON, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- One lucky entrepreneur is about to get her own storefront in downtown Lisbon for two years, rent and utility free.

Danielle Ameling, the owner of Iron Leaf Press, is the winner of Project Bright Idea, a contest held by Moon Eye Ventures and the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group to bring more business to Main Street.

Right now, Ameling runs her print and design shop in the spare room of her Mount Vernon apartment, after she works a full-time job.

"Trying to keep as many clients as I can while still trying to provide them with the utmost service," Ameling said.

She makes business and greeting cards, personalized stationery and wedding invitations, all by hand. She even sets the type for the letters herself.

"I only have a small cabinet, because, obviously, space concerns," Ameling said about the storage in her apartment.

But she won't have to worry about those space concerns anymore. She's moving from her spare room to a two-story house. It's so big, she plans to roll in a new press that weighs 1,500 lbs.

Joe Jennison with the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group said Ameling's victory is a win-win for everybody.

"When Danielle gets here, she will have access to dozens of businesses in this community who want to see her succeed," he said.

Ameling is hoping to help others succeed, too, by growing out of the space and opening it up to another entrepreneur.

"When I'm done utilizing the building, hopefully I'll be able to expand and they'll be able to offer that opportunity to another business," Ameling said.

It's just another way to help the community grow.
