Rural Mailbox Bombs Investigated

CLAYTON COUNTY (CBS 2/FOX 28) - Authorities are investigating a pair of rural mailbox explosions this past week-end.

The Clayton County Sheriff's office says got a first call Saturday on Apsen Road in rural Postville that a mailbox had been destroyed by an explosive device, and that a second device was found in the victim's driveway.

While investigating that incident, a second call came in that a mailbox had been destroyed at 212th Street in rural Elgin.

Investigators say it appears all the devices used illegal fireworks.

The Clayton County Sheriff's Office, Postville Police Department, State Patrol, State Fire Marshal, US Postal Inspectors and Postville Fire Department are all investigating the incidents.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Clayton County TIP line at (563) 245-1234.
