Therapy Dogs Get Eye Check

CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) - May is National Service Dog Eye Month and some local dogs got a check-up today!

Members of the American College of Veterinary Opthalmology are providing free eye exams to all service dogs - and two received first class treatment Wednesday.

For the dogs, getting a regular screening means doctors can diagnose conditions early and treat them to prevent visual impairment.

It also means they can continue helping those in need.

"The majority of the dogs that I've seen this year have been veterans dogs. Dogs helping visually impaired Veterans," says Dr. Sinisa Grozdanic of the Eastern Iowa Veterinary Specialty Center.

The check-ups are free with the cost being waived by the participating doctors.

Additional service dogs will are scheduled for a check-up May 23rd.
