Eighth Graders Audition For Washington Show Choir

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Eighth graders put their hearts and bodies on the line at Franklin Middle School Thursday.

"Yeah, I got really nervous," Ian Lundy said.

The students tried out for Washington High School's freshman show choir -- Vivace.

"I just love it so much. I want to keep going," Ian said.

Rebecca Bridges is following a long line of show choir performers.

"My sisters have been through. My parents are pushing me to do it. I have fun with it anyways," Rebecca said.

"It has totally, totally become cooler. When I was in junior high school and high school, it was like, 'Oh please, show choir? What?' But now, everybody is, this is the thing," Rebecca's mom Jacki said.

With about 50 spots to fill, director Amy Farley is looking for kids with potential.

"It takes a lot of work," Amy Farley said.

Shawndell Young went through the audition process last year and said show choir is for anyone.

"It's not weird. Try it out. If you don't like it, then you don't have to do it, but it's always worth a try," Shawndell said.

The kids will find out if they made the choir by the end of their school year.
