Police Looking for 2 Suspects in Triple Shooting

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - It was a rude awakening.

"I was actually asleep in the other room and I heard a big boom," resident Julie Hutson said.

That boom was actually the sound of gun fire, bullets that set Julie Hutson and an entire neighborhood on edge.

"The next thing I hear my roommates screaming get down, get down, so that's when I kinda freaked out," Hutson said.

Police arrived on scene at the apartment complex on 1233 3rd Ave SE just after Noon and found three men wounded, one critically.

"We do not believe this to be a random occurrence," Cedar Rapids Police Chief Wayne Jerman said.

The men were transported to area hospitals. Jerman says its a setback for an area that was making progress.

"These type of incidents just can't occur, and its not to be tolerated by the police department and hopefully its not going to be tolerated by the community."

For Hutson, its violence too close for comfort. Bullet holes in her home show how close she came to being the fourth victim.

"If it weren't for it being lodged in the door, then it would have hit me," Hutson said.

Residents say the violence is becoming to common.

"It's kinda scary because this is the second incident we've had," Resident Kenn Boots said.

Leaving him and others to wonder - what's next?

"It might be me next time...I'm not ready to go yet," Boots said.

Police are looking for two suspects, described as black men. At the time of the crime, they were wearing black hoodies and jeans. They got away behind the apartment in a green van.
