Hundreds Attend Public Burial Service for Elizabeth Collins

WATERLOO, Iowa (CBS2/Fox28) -- Hundreds gathered at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery for a public burial service for Elizabeth Collins. Collins, 8, and her cousin, Lyric Cook, went missing last July. Their bodies were found in December in a wooded area in Bremer County.

“You’re going to struggle regardless. So why not struggle with people who love us, and be there to pray over us and encourage us, and just listen to us? That's what we need. That's what community is for,” said Chris Reeves, Associate Pastor at Heartland Vineyard Church.

Drew and Heather Collins have said they draw strength from the outpouring of support from the Evansdale community – a community equally inspired by them. “It helps us to get through it, to see their faith and their strength,” said Sarah Staebell, a family friend.

At this point, investigators haven’t announced what killed Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook. Authorities continue to investigate the case.
