Smoke Alarm Alerts Tenant to Apartment Fire

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- A smoke alarm is credited with alerting more than a dozen people inside a Cedar Rapids apartment to get out.  Firefighters were called to the apartment just after 8:00 Monday morning located at 410 14th Street SE. 
   Investigators say 22-year-old Tara Countryman heard the smoke alarm and discovered the flames.
  She alerted others inside by yelling and knocking on the lower levels.  13 people, including seven children ages five and under escaped the fire unhurt.
   Firefighters say two upper apartments sustained heavy smoke and fire damage while the lower two sustained smoke and water damage.  The Red Cross is assisting the 13 displaced by the fire. 
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
