Local Cupcake Makers Plan to Stand Out

NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) – According to the “American Institute of Baking” in-store cupcakes sales increased more than 18-percent in 2011. In turn, the cupcake has become a symbol of entrepreneurship.

In the Corridor there are no fewer than a half a dozen stores offering specialty cupcakes and one of the newest spots is called JJ’s in North Liberty.  The store is run and owned by Janee Bradshaw, a former caterer turned “sweet genius.”

Bradshaw says her dream to open up a cupcake store first began after a conversation with her daughter.

“My daughter wanted something different for like to take to school so I started doing cupcakes,” said Bradshaw.

The cupcakes at JJ’s are homemade, literally.  Every morning Bradshaw bakes hundreds of cupcakes right from her home kitchen, loads them on to a truck, and takes them to her store. It’s a business model that Bradshaw says givers her teats their mouth-watering appeal.
