ROAD TRIPPIN' Cedar Rapids: Summer Sounds
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - It glows on the banks of the Cedar River as yet another band fills the night air with sweet sounds that drift all through downtown Cedar Rapids. This is the first summer for a full entertainment schedule at the McGrath Amphitheater and the new stage is getting a workout. Chicago, Barenaked Ladies, Brian Setzer and George Thorogood are just the beginning of a season of music that includes some great national tours as well as local artists and events. The guy who books the gigs, Michael Silva, says this jewel on the river is a 'Boutique Amphitheater,' just the right size for a number of bands and their agents who take one look and say wow, put us on the calendar. Still on the summer schedule are those bearded boys from Texas, ZZ Top, the nation's best storyteller, Garrison Keillor, alternative rocker Ben Folds and Brit Floyd, a band that is simply billed as the world's best Pink Floyd tribute with all amazing light show elements included. Mix that with rib festivals and weekly Uptown Friday Night gatherings and you have a venue that is really starting to fill a niche in the corridor and gain a lot of fans.
Sometimes the best getaways are staycations - come along as Matt Hammill takes you ROAD TRIPPIN' just down the street to see some of the best entertainment in the Midwest at the McGrath Amphitheater !
