SE Cedar Rapids home damaged in basement fire

A home in southeast Cedar Rapids took on major damage after a fire Wednesday morning.

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department was called to the home at 361 21st St. SE at 10:56 a.m. for a reporter of smoke coming from the house. The two people inside were able to get out of the home before fire crews got on scene.

When they arrived, firefighters found thick brown smoke coming from the side entry door. Crews then entered the home and found the fire in the basement. The fire was put out by 11:15 a.m.

CRFD says the basement had major fire damage as a result.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
