Rest area shooting victim identified

Mariana Lesnic is accused of shooting a man at the westbound I-80 rest stop in Victor at 2:37 p.m. He was found dead in his semi truck with gunshot wounds.

Investigators now say the victim in the September 6th, 2017 shooting at the Victor rest area on I-80 is Ernest Kummer, age 60, of Monroe, Iowa.

Mariana Lesnic, 43, is accused of shooting Kummer at the westbound I-80 rest stop in Victor at 2:37 a.m. He was found dead in his semi truck with gunshot wounds.

Lesnic is being held in the Iowa County Jail on $1 million cash-only bond.

Kummer was an employee of Fridley, Minnesota-based Copeland Trucking, where he had worked since 2010. A company official said it wouldn't comment on the "horrific event" at the request of Kummer's family.

Iowa County Sheriff Rob Rotter said Thursday his office and the Division of Criminal Investigation are continuing to search for answers in the case, including a possible motive.
