On National Fruitcake Day, buy a fruitcake to support Camp Courageous

Camp Courageous volunteers made over 4,000 fruitcakes to sell for this year's annual fruitcake fundraiser, which has been going on for around 30 years. Volunteers say their goal is to raise $40,000. (CBS2/FOX28)

Camp Courageous of Iowa, a year-long recreational and respite care facility that serves people of all ages with disabilities, generates a large portion of their yearly budget from their annual fruitcake sale. For nearly 30 years, using a secret recipe passed down from a volunteer named Leigh Clark, they have been baking and selling thousands of fruitcakes in the winter season.

This year, volunteers made over 4,000 fruitcakes, which are being sold for $10 apiece at stores throughout Iowa.

December 27 is National Fruitcake Day, so there is perhaps no better time to buy one of these seasonal treats to support the non-profit.
