Messy commute into Monday evening

Expected accumulation of wet, sloppy snow in eastern Iowa

Another round of rain, sleet and snow will move through eastern Iowa this afternoon. As colder air moves in, there will be a changeover to mostly rain across the area into Monday evening.

Precipitation may be heavy at times and winds will be kicking around 20 to 40 mph. That combination will lead to slick roads and periods of reduced visibility. Where it is colder, in the northeast, snow will accumulate quickly. Where it is a little warmer, in the southwest, it will take some time for accumulation to begin. Regardless, travel will be slick.

There is still some uncertainty on just how much snow will accumulate, especially on Monday because we will be experiencing a transition from rain to snow.

Locally higher amounts will be possible, especially where any convection (lightning and thunder) develops. Snow will wind down Monday night and there will be some additional light snow showers on Tuesday.
