Cedar Rapids man charged with attempted murder after stabbing

Ronald Gonterman was transported to the Johnson County Jail charged with attempted murder.

A Cedar Rapids man is facing attempted murder charges for a stabbing in Oxford.

Johnson County authorities received a call Thursday at 12:14 p.m. from a man saying he had been stabbed multiple times. When he called, the man was not aware of his location.

Police used a mapping tool to pinpoint his location. The victim was located in the Hawkeye Wildlife area in Oxford near the intersection of Swan Lake Road and Greencastle Avenue.

The victim suffered many stabs wounds to the back, but they were non-life threatening. He also said the person who stabbed him also tried to run him over with his pickup truck and shot multiple rounds at him from a semi-automatic pistol.

The victim knew who the assailant was and gave a name and description. The victim was taken to the University of Iowa Emergency Treatment Center for his injuries.

Later in the day, 66-year-old Ronald Gene Gonterman of Cedar Rapids was arrested at his home.

Gonterman was transported to the Johnson County Jail charged with attempted murder.

The case still remains under investigation.
