Man killed in crash on Highway 30 Wednesday morning
LINN COUNTY, Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) —
A man is dead and another hospitalized after a crash that temporarily closed a part of Highway 30 in Linn County Wednesday morning.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office says 62-year-old John Gibbs was heading east on Highway 30 near 80th Street in his Pontiac Vibe when he entered the median, hitting several crash guards and sand barrels around 7:36 a.m.
His vehicle then went back into the roadway, where it was struck by a Ford Edge driven by 67-year-old Bruce Gardner of Garrison. Gibbs' vehicle came to a rest on its top by exit 246, while Gardner's vehicle same to a rest in the roadway. Law enforcement closed Highway 30 EB as they responded to the crash.
Gibbs was taken to a local hospital where he died. Gardner was taken to a hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Both men were the only people in their vehicles and were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
The crash is still under investigation.
