Man involved in Atalissa truck stop shooting named, charged
ATALISSA, IOWA (CBS2/FOX28) —
Authorities have named the man involved in a shooting at a truck stop along I-80 on Thursday near Atalissa.
Charles Johnston, 60, is charged with attempted murder and assault on a peace officer with a dangerous weapon.
Iowa State Troopers were called to shots fired on eastbound I-80 near the 265 mile marker. Johnston then allegedly exited the highway and fired more shots at drivers at the Pilot gas station. Troopers then encountered Johnston on County Rd X46 where they exchanged gunfire with him. He was taken into custody after a brief standoff.
No one was injured in any of the gunfire.
Johnston is being held in the Cedar County Jail.
