Man charged in Iowa City cab driver murder charged in bail bondsman murder

41-year-old Curtis Jones has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of 34-year-old Jonathan Wieseler. Online jail records show that Jones had a second murder charge added to his file.

The man charged for the murder of a cab driver in Iowa City has now been charged with the murder of a bail bondsman.

41-year-old Curtis Jones has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of 34-year-old Jonathan Wieseler. Online jail records show that Jones had a second murder charge added to his file.

Wieseler was found shot dead inside Lederman Bail Bonds on April 23. Wieseler was an employee at the bail bond office.

Johnson County Attorney Janet Lyness says Jones went into Lederman Bail Bonds with the intent to rob it on April 22. Between 10:20 and 10:32 p.m., Jones shot Wieseler in the head with a small handgun without justification. Wieseler's DNA was found mixed with the DNA of Curtis Jones on evidence taken from the vehicle Jones was driving.

Jones is also charged with first-degree murder for the shooting of Iowa City cab driver Ricky Lillie. He is set to go to trial for that case in Scott County on April 9.

Jones has been in and out of prison since 2001. He was granted parole last October for a burglary charge, despite a parole officer deeming him a high risk to commit more violent crimes.
