Crews searching for car that sank in Cedar River

UPDATE: Cedar Rapids Police and Fire Departments along with the Johnson and Linn County Dive Teams are unable to find the car that sank into the Cedar River Sunday.

Authorities say one female and two children were rescued by individuals with ski boats on the Mohawk boat ramp at 101 J Avenue NW. They were taken to local hospitals. So far their condition is unknown.

Crews arrived on the scene attempting to find the vehicle with sonar around 11:00 a.m. Monday morning. The search lasted for about two hours before it was discontinued for the day.

Authorities say this is an active investigation and further updates will be available soon.


CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) — A woman and two children were rescued from a sinking car in the Cedar River on Sunday in the late afternoon. That's according to a press release from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department. Cedar Rapids Fire and Police were called to 101 J Ave. NE at 4:44 p.m. for a car in the water with occupants inside off the Mohawk boat ramp.

When crews arrived they found the woman and two children in ski boats. They had been rescued from the sinking car. The three were taken to local hospitals. No word on their condition at the time of this story.

Investigators are trying to figure out what happened.
