Crews battle fire, sleet in SW Cedar Rapids

Cedar Rapids fire crews are on the scene of a residential fire in the southwest part of town.

Cedar Rapids Public Safety Communications Coordinator Greg Buelow says the fire at 506 27th Ave SW was reported by a passerby at 2:51 p.m.

When firetrucks arrived, firefighters found significant fire coming from the attic area, and smoke coming out from second floor windows.

No one is believed to have been home when the fire started, but a cat died as a result of the fire. No one was hurt battling the fire.

The home is considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
