Coralville woman accused of drunkenly beating son with autism
IOWA CITY, Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) —
A Coralville woman is facing a number of charges after an incident in which she allegedly abused one of her children with autism while drunk.
A criminal complaint say police were called to an Iowa City residence in the 2600-block of Whispering Prairie Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a report of a woman assaulting her son.
When police arrived, 33-year-old Joni Reed and her son were separated. The child had bruising above his left eye, complained of head pain, and had scrapes on his arm. Reed's other son was present during the incident.
Reed was allegedly combative with police, but admitted drinking vodka and agreed to a voluntary breath sample. The test came back with a result of .174 BAC.
Reed was charged with one count of child endangerment causing bodily injury and two counts of child endangerment.
She was booked into the Johnson County Jail, but has since bonded out.
