Buchanan County woman accused of killing ex-husband
INDEPENDENCE, Iowa —
A Buchanan County mother is accused of murdering her ex-husband in front of their son early Monday morning, according to the sheriff's office.
Court documents show law enforcement responded to the stabbing in the 1900 block of Henley Avenue in Independence at about 4:34 a.m., after a phone call from the child stating, "my mom just stabbed my dad."
Investigators said Jason Allen Hunziker was found dead inside a bedroom at the home, moments after he called 911 a second time stating, "my wife just stabbed me and took my child."
A short time later Hillary Lee Hunziker, 32, was arrested in Robins, where first responders said they found her and the boy covered in blood. Investigators said they found a knife, razor blades and blood on Hunziker's car. She also admitted to stabbing her ex-husband.
According to court documents, Hunziker told her mother she had a plan and asked for help with their son if anything should happen to her ex-husband. She also shared details with ambulance staff members, telling them she planned to kill her ex-husband by sneaking into his unlocked house, using a knife she bought at Walmart, wearing special black boots that were quiet and parking down the road to avoid detection.
Hunziker is being held in the Buchanan County Jail.
