USPS Defaults on Retiree Payment

Updated: Tuesday, October 1 2013, 10:25 PM CDT

CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) --
Retirees from the United States Postal Service may not get their lastest benefit check any time soon.
The post office has now defaulted on last month's $5.6 billion payment.
The Postmaster General says he warned officials this would happen because the service is "in the midst of a financial disaster."
Officials say the default is not related to the government shutdown.
