UPDATE: Ahlers Avoids Murder Charges

28) -- CBS 2 News has learned that Brandon Ahlers will take a plea deal
Tuesday that will keep him out of prison for the rest of his life. 
Ahlers was accused of aiding and abetting Isaiah Sweet.  Sweet is
accused of killing his grandparents in their Manchester home.  He was
captured the day after their bodies were discovered in Cedar Rapids.
Delaware County Attorney John Bernau tells CBS 2's Kevin Barry Ahlers
is more valuable as a witness in his case against Sweet.  Tuesday
afternoon, Ahlers pleaded guilty to unauthorized possession of an
offensive weapon, 3rd Degree Burglary as well as two counts of being an
accessory after the fact in murders of Richard and Janet Sweet.  He also
pleaded guilty to 2 counts of attempted burglary.  He will be sentenced
on those counts in about two months.
