CITY: Don't Use City Flood Equipment

Updated: Saturday, July 5 2014, 11:52 PM CDT
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) – The City of Cedar Rapids is asking residents to not operate the city’s flood protection equipment.

The city says crews have reported several incidents of residents using the city’s flood pumps, leading to some of the pumps running out of fuel, becoming flooded, and having sewer plugs get pushed out.

The city says the pumps need to run on a specific schedule to ensure proper flood protection.

Sewer crews will continue to work emergency shifts at all hours of the day.
