Saying goodbye to a musical icon

After 43 years in business, this family-owned, independent music store is closing its doors.

Shortly after Thanksgiving eastern Iowa lost--at the age of 90--a gifted teacher, mentor and musician.

Arnold "Arnie" Erickson taught math and special education in the Cedar Rapids school district, performed in jazz trios throughout the area and in 1973, opened an independent music store in the heart of the city.

Now, after more than four decades of touching thousands of lives, that small but iconic musical gathering place is closing. In the spirit of Created in the Corridor, we honor Erickson's legacy through the words, memories and music of his son.
