Person of interest in cab driver homicide arrested on separate charges

Police in Iowa City say they have identified of person of interest they would like to talk to regarding the death of an Iowa City cab driver.

UPDATE (July 3rd, 11:15 AM) - Police have arrested the person of interest in the death of an Iowa City cab driver on unrelated charges out of Keota.

After receiving multiple tips from the public, the Iowa City Police Department has identified the person of interest in the ongoing investigation into the Ricky Lillie homicide as Curtis Cortez Jones, age 41.
Jones was taken into custody in Mount Pleasant on Friday, June 30, 2017 for an arrest warrant from the Keota Police Department for theft in the second degree. In addition, Jones was also served with an arrest warrant for a parole violation. Jones remains in the custody at the Keokuk County Jail. The Iowa City Police investigations unit continues to investigate Jones involvement in this case.
Additionally, the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the manner of death in this case to be a homicide, and cause of death to be gunshot wounds to the head.
The Iowa City Police Department continues to request information from the public regarding this case.

Ricky Lillie was found slumped over in his cab, dead, in the 500 block of Ernst St. before 4 a.m. on Wednesday.

Yellow Cab, Lillie's employer, released a statement, saying in part, "Rick was an experienced driver who was friendly to his passengers, supportive of his co-workers, and well-liked in our company. He conducted himself with great professionalism and enjoyed his work. A nicer more genuine guy cannot be found. His loss under these circumstances has left a large void in our company that we are only beginning to address."
